Pre-Global Forum Breakfast Program

8:00-Noon     Enjoy a light breakfast while you network then hear from speakers about key issues related to human capital challenges, the federal budget and its impacts, and cyber security.  This is a complimentary event in Washington DC for Federal government personnel, invited private sector personnel and TIAW Global Forum attendees.

8:45 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. Honorary Patron Andrina Lever introduces Keynote speaker and 2015 TIAW Lifetime Achievement Award recipient - Selima Ahmad, 2015 TIAW Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. TIAW GLOBAL FORUM 2015 SUPERPANEL

2015 is a milestone for both TIAW and women. This year, TIAW celebrates its 35th anniversary as well as the theme ‘Beyond Sustainability: Women’s Economic Empowerment’. Reflecting TIAW’s leadership in this area, for the first time, the G7, the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Kenya and the United Nations Women Report on the Progress of the Women’s World have all recognized the importance of economic empowerment for women. Building on these ground breaking documents as well as the TIAW 2014 Call to Action, the Super Panel shall discuss and make recommendations of what needs to be done to ensure that women’s economic empowerment becomes embedded and goes beyond sustainability.

Panel Chair and 2015 TIAW Honorary Patron: Andrina Lever, 2003 TIAW Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Barrister and Solicitor, Founder of Lever Enterprises, consultant and advocate for small business and international trade.


Selima Ahmad, 2015 TIAW Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Founder, Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Recipient of Oslo Business for Peace Award, 2014

Barbara Annis, 2009 TIAW Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Founder and CEO of Barbara Annis & Associates, Inc., expert on gender intelligence, inclusive leadership and cultural intelligence.

Honourable Sarmite (Sam) Bulte, P.C., B.A., LL.B., 2008 TIAW World of Difference Award Winner is a lawyer and former Member of Parliament who currently serves as an international consultant providing advice on public policy, advocacy, government relations, governance and entrepreneurship to not-for-profit organizations, businesses and governments.

Amanda Ellis (invited), 2011 TIAW Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Ambassador, Head of Mission, Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the Unite Nations Office in Geneva

Virginia Littlejohn, 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Global Advisor for WEConnect International, CEO and Co-Founder Quantum Leaps, an organization that works on strategic initiatives to fuel the growth of women’s entrepreneurship.

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Transformative Leadership is Now! -- The leadership today is shaping the future.  Transformative leadership can be defined as being built on a foundation of integrity and driven by self-awareness and sense of purpose.  It addresses inequity, improves the lives of others and makes or influences positive change. Findings from the Women’s Transformative Leadership in Africa report from the MasterCard Foundation will be used to initiate the conversation and integrate with other leadership observations from the panel including the influence of women on boards, C-suite, etc.

Being prepared – understanding financials!  Why is certification so important? How these different avenues are influencing sustainability for economic empowerment for women.

9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.  I did it my way!  Hear entrepreneurs and business leaders discuss the paths in the journey to success and share their words of wisdom. Data and information will be shared regarding trends and forecasts impacting women’s economic empowerment.   

Panel Chair:  Diane Tompson TIAW Program Director of Entrepreneurship.  Co-owner of three companies working under the banner of the parent company, The Powercom Group, based in Tasmania. She is a founding director and co-owner of Novaris Technologies Malaysia. Novaris is a leading edge electronic manufacturer producing lightning and surge protection products.
