2021 World of Difference AwardsThe TIAW World of Difference Award recognizes women, and men, whose efforts have advanced the economic empowerment of women locally, regionally or worldwide. Economic empowerment as defined by TIAW means contributing to the ability of women to earn a living or in some way directly contributing to the economic betterment of other women, as distinct from other worthy contributions that are not within the scope of these awards. See category descriptions below for more details. Whether the candidate is working on a small scale in the developing world or making an impact at the topic of the world’s biggest businesses, whether your candidate is well known or an unsung heroine or hero, we want you to tell us the stories of the people whose extraordinary achievements are furthering the economic empowerment of women. Please note that individuals cannot nominate themselves. 2021 recipients will be announced at our global virtual event October 6, 2021 (details to follow). Nominations will open in 2021 from February 25th and will close April 30th. |

Since the year 2000, the International Alliance for Women (TIAW) has successfully built and supported a Village Bank Program to assist impoverished women in developing countries start small enterprises. To date we have raised funds for more than 120 Village Banks in 24 countries.
Women in developing countries need help getting access to capital to help them start or grow businesses. The concept of ‘micro credit’ – small loans distributed to individuals or groups of women – has shown to work as a way to help empower female entrepreneurs who wouldn’t otherwise have access to capital.
