Dear Members

We all watched with horror at the outcome and subsequently with admiration at the resolve
and strength of the British people while this story unfolded. Perhaps the worst part of it all
(and of any disaster in the world where large numbers of people are affected) is the sudden
wondering about loved ones and business contacts in the countries and cities that are affected.
When the news about the London bombings broke on Thursday, July 7th, my first thoughts
were about all the women we know through the City Women’s Network and Women in Banking and Finance

Which of them worked in the financial district? How many of them commuted every day? Were any of them on that double decker bus? Were any of their husbands, children, parents, siblings, friends affected? Were any TIAW members there or members from any of our European member organizations who commute frequently to London? Thanks to the modern conveniences of cell phones and email, we were able to find out many of those answers within 24 hours while we watched the story unfold. And breathed sighs of relief as we heard the voices or received the emails from long time friends.

It is in times like this when we, as a global community, reflect on our direction as a human race (whether towards a better world or a scarier, more threatening one), that the importance of networks and our human connections becomes rogressively more important and, frankly, crucial. While our technology changes and the speed at which we make decisions, absorb news, learn new skills, and adapt to new situations increases, some things will never change.

Namely, that we as human being need to be in touch with other people and share in their struggles, triumphs, and discoveries about the wonder and miracles of life. That we can find strength and inspiration in numbers and in shared purposes and goals. And that our relationships with other women who are striving to be the best entrepreneurs, CEOs, managers, mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and friends they can be, are part of what keeps us sure in our hearts that the world is a wonderful place to be -- that as a human race, we will continue to strive towards a world that is more peaceful and prosperous for all.

It is for this reason that organizations such as TIAW will continue to thrive in the 21st century.
We need each other, perhaps now more than ever. With that in mind, I personally want to invite
you to TIAW’s 25th Anniversary Celebration in Jacksonville this October 19th - 22nd. It will be a
great way to reconnect with friends and make new contacts, solidify a sense of belonging,
and find strength and inspiration from each other as we move forward in this rapidly changing world.

Please join me in sending our thoughts, strength and best wishes to all TIAW members and
City Women’s Network members who were affected directly or indirectly by the July bombings in London.
