Delightful hors d’oeuvres and drinks preceded the distinguished speakers who included Kenneth T. Jackson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Historical Society; Elizabeth Dater, Managing Director at U.S. Equities Credit Suisse Asset Management, the NYHS Board of Trustees; Bill Collins, Director, Public and Business Affairs, North East Region, Ford Motor Company; Barbara Peda, Senior Vice President of AT&T Business Services; John Ott, National Heritage Museum; and Drew Gilpin Faust, Dean at Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. In different ways, all of the speakers spoke of the extraordinary women in the exhibition who braved all adversity to succeed in their chosen field. The speakers also highlighted the wonderful partnership between the New York Historical Society, Radcliffe (whose researchers identified the women and wrote their biographies), the many donors of the artifacts displayed, and the sponsors who provided wonderful support. Drew Gilpin Faust specifically mentioned TIAW in his thank you speech at the reception.

The evening included a private tour of the exhibition, which brings to life the stories of over 40 intriguing women who helped shape the landscape of American Business. Artifacts and costumes, diaries and letters, business and legal documents, photographs and paper, audio recordings and on-line interactive technology reveal the trials and triumphs of this fascinating and diverse group. Along the way, the exhibition highlights how race, class, ethnicity, geography, generation, and social upheaval infused the experiences of American businesswomen. While in New York, the exhibition is located at the New York Historical Center building, 2 West 77th Street at Central Park West. Tel.: (212) 873-3400. Visit the Center’s Web site at: www.nyhistory.org for further information on this and related programming.

Visit the exhibition Web site at: www.enterprisingwomenexhibit.org. for a complete touring agenda. The national exhibit is made possible through the generous support of Ford Motor Company and AT&T.
