TIAW Micro Credit Program

TIAW is committed to improving economic security for women around the world. Back in the late 1990's we asked ourselves who needs economic security more than the millions and millions of women who live on less than $1 day? The answer to this question led to the founding of the TIAW Micro Credit Program (TIAW Micro). TIAW Micro raises awareness of the economic promise of Micro Credit, and we raise funds to capitalize loans for Village Banks (our term for loans made to a group of women who who all borrow from the same lender at the same time).

Women have always relied on self-employment to earn money to support their families. Perhaps your own grandmother took in laundry or sold her homemade jams and jellies at summer fairs, like so many other women have done before and since. That is why TIAW Micro is dedicated to promoting micro credit, which loans very small amounts to very poor

women who may lack education and collateral, but still need seed money for their small home based business enterprises.TIAW members are successful business women themselves. They know what a benefit fair and available business financing is to a young and growing business. Through TIAW Micro, our members and friends support the neediest of business women by funding village banks, advocating for micro credit, and working to increase the capacity of the micro-finance industry.

Our name may be Micro, however, our results are anything but. In the past dozen years, TIAW women have raised well over half a million dollars to capitalize nearly 120 village banks in 24 countries. TIAW volunteers have put literally tens of thousands of hours behind this effort, and TIAW Micro continues to grow with our members' energy and support.
